Girls cricket is continuing to grow at Eastern Suburbs Junior Cricket Club (ESJCC). For the 2018/2019 season the club will have two Year 5-8 Super Smash teams and one Premier Girls (Year 9-13) Team. Girls also play in the mixed cricket grades on a Saturday morning.
There are several opportunities for girls to play cricket:
Girls-only Year 5-8 Super Smash League
Played on Sundays at 1pm against other Wellington club teams. This is a fun, fast and inclusive version of the game.
Teams of 8 x players, using a softer 'incredible' ball, play for 16 overs, batting in pairs for 4 overs, then bowling 2 overs and rotating around the field. No protective gear is necessary.
First game: Sunday 25 November.
The Year 5-8 girls practice on Tuesdays, 3.30pm - 4.30pm at Kilbirnie Park.
Premier Girls cricket
For Year 9-13 and played on Saturday afternoons from 2pm. T20 games, using a hard ball in teams of 8-aside for the competition before Christmas and 11-a-side for post-Christmas competition. Some gear is provided. Many of the girls will have some of their own gear at this level.
The girls practice on Mondays, 4pm - 5pm at Kilbirnie Park nets.
Mixed cricket
Year 1-8 girls and boys play on Saturday mornings for the club and also in representative and tournament teams. Girls are able to play up to two grades below their school year. All gear is provided. Games begin Saturday 3 November.
